Thanksgiving in Nashville: A Family Guide to Music City, Holiday Fun, and a Franklin Reset
Thinking about spending Thanksgiving in Nashville?
Nashville is a surprisingly fun place for a Thanksgiving family trip. You get the energy and live music of Music City, the beginning of the holiday season, plenty of family-friendly activities, and—if you plan it right—a chance to slow everything down and actually enjoy the holiday.
My favorite way to do it isn't to spend the entire trip downtown.
Instead, I'd combine a few days in Nashville with a couple of nights in Franklin, just south of the city.
Think: live music, Broadway, Christmas lights, great food, then a little nature, spa time and a Thanksgiving reset.
And yes, someone else can cook the turkey.
Is Nashville a Good Place to Visit for Thanksgiving?
Absolutely — especially if you want your Thanksgiving vacation to feel like an actual trip rather than simply relocating Thanksgiving dinner to someone else's house.
Nashville is busy enough to have plenty happening over Thanksgiving weekend, but the holiday season is just getting started, which means you can combine Thanksgiving with Nashville's Christmas and seasonal experiences.
In 2026, Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 26, and Nashville's official tourism calendar is already highlighting Thanksgiving dining, family activities, live holiday performances and seasonal events throughout the holiday weekend.
And there's another reason I love this time of year in Nashville:
The city starts getting festive.
So, if your family wants music, holiday lights, great restaurants and things to do with the kids— but you don't necessarily want a traditional Thanksgiving-at-home experience—Nashville is a really fun option.
Where to Stay Downtown Nashville for Thanksgiving
For the first part of your trip, I'd stay downtown or in the Gulch.
That gives you easy access to restaurants, live music, Broadway, the Ryman and many of Nashville's major attractions without spending your Thanksgiving vacation bouncing around.
Here are four downtown Nashville hotels I'd put on my list:
If you're looking for a polished, full-service luxury hotel with a great downtown location, Grand Hyatt is an excellent option.
It's a particularly good fit for families who want a higher-end hotel experience while still being close to everything.
If beautiful design, wellness and a more sophisticated, nature-inspired atmosphere are your thing, 1 Hotel is a standout.
It's also a natural fit for the overall Nashville + Franklin itinerary I'm recommending here because the hotel itself has such a strong wellness and design focus.
If you want luxury, space and a great downtown location, the JW Marriott is a strong choice for a Nashville family stay. It puts you close to Broadway, the Ryman and the rest of downtown while giving you a polished hotel experience to come back to after a busy day exploring the city.
The rooftop pool and upscale dining make the hotel itself feel like part of the experience, especially if you want somewhere that feels special without sacrificing a convenient location.
The Joseph is another luxury option I'd consider if the hotel experience is an important part of your trip.
It's especially appealing for travelers who care about food, service, design and a more refined atmosphere.

Things to Do in Nashville Over Thanksgiving
You could easily spend several days in Nashville without running out of things to do. But if you're traveling with family, I wouldn't try to check every attraction off a list.
Instead, pick a few experiences that feel distinctly Nashville.
Enjoy Live Music
I'm going to say this as someone who lives here:
You cannot come to Nashville and not hear live music.
You don't have to be a huge country music fan, either.
Check what's playing at:
The Grand Ole Opry
If you've never been, this is the classic Nashville experience.
And 2026 is an especially fun year to visit because the Grand Ole Opry is celebrating OPRY 100. The Opry 100 exhibit at the historic Ryman Auditorium is a great way to experience the history of the Grand Ole Opry without leaving downtown. The exhibit features memorabilia from legendary Opry members and is included with a Ryman tour.
And if you want to see the Grand Ole Opry itself, there are shows throughout Thanksgiving week at the Grand Ole Opry House. Check the current schedule when planning your trip.
Ryman Auditorium
The Ryman is one of those places where the venue itself is part of the experience.
Check who's playing while you're in town. You may find a major touring artist, an Americana favorite or something completely unexpected.
And if there's no concert that fits your schedule, consider taking a tour during the day including the Opry 100 Exhibit.
The Bluebird Cafe
For something completely different, try to get tickets to a songwriter round at the Bluebird Cafe.
This is one of my favorite examples of the Nashville experience that you can't really duplicate anywhere else: a small room, a handful of songwriters and the stories behind the songs they've written.
The Bluebird Cafe is outside of downtown Nashville, however, and can be challenge to snag tickets here. For an equally awesome experience, look for singer-songwriter nights at The Listening Room Cafe or 3rd and Lindsley.

These are other good options if you'd rather experience Nashville through smaller live-music venues than a huge concert.
And then there's my favorite Nashville advice:
Walk Broadway and listen.
Experience Broadway—but choose your timing
Yes, you should experience Broadway.
But you don't necessarily need to spend your entire evening there.
If you're traveling with kids or simply don't want the full late-night Broadway scene, go during the day.
Walk down Broadway. Listen to the bands playing from the open doors. If someone catches your attention, go inside.
Some of the best Nashville memories happen when you hear an incredible singer from the sidewalk and decide to walk in.
Many Broadway venues welcome families during certain hours, although age policies vary by venue. Just ask at the front door.
Get Into the Christmas Spirit
One of the things I love about spending Thanksgiving in Nashville is that you can start experiencing the Christmas season before Thanksgiving is even over.
ICE! at Gaylord Opryland
If you're traveling with kids, put this one high on your list.
Gaylord Opryland's A Country Christmas runs from November 6, 2026 through January 2, 2027, and the 2026 ICE! theme is Home Alone.
The attraction is built from more than two million pounds of ice and features immersive scenes inspired by the movie.
But ICE! is just one part of the experience.
Gaylord's 2026 holiday lineup also includes:
More than five million Christmas lights
A 48-foot Christmas tree
Pinetop with ice tubing, bumper cars and a real-ice skating rink
Gingerbread decorating
Photos with Santa
POMP, SNOW & CIRQUEumstance
Holiday dining
There are also special Thanksgiving Day dining options at the resort.
One important planning note: Gaylord is using capacity controls during some of its busiest holiday dates. On certain dates, including November 23–26, access after 3 p.m. is guaranteed only for overnight guests and people with indoor or outdoor event-ticket reservations. So don't just show up assuming you can wander in whenever you want.
Cheekwood Holiday LIGHTS
Another beautiful option is Cheekwood's Holiday LIGHTS, which begins November 20, 2026.
The experience features a one-mile walking path covered in more than a million lights, plus s'mores, a holiday marketplace and holiday decorations inside the historic mansion. It runs seven nights a week from 4:30–10 p.m., except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
This is a completely different experience from ICE!, so if you're spending several days in Nashville, you could choose based on what your family enjoys.
A Few Family-Friendly Activities in Nashville
Not every activity needs to be a museum.
Sometimes everyone just needs to do something fun.
Pins Mechanical Co. in the Gulch
Pins is a great family break from sightseeing, especially if you have kids who are getting tired of being dragged around Nashville.
There's:
Duckpin bowling
Pinball
Retro arcade games
Foosball
Ping pong
Patio games
Kids are welcome until 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and all day Sunday. Pins doesn't take regular reservations for its games, so plan for first-come, first-served play.
Puttshack in the Gulch
Puttshack is another good option if you want an indoor activity that doesn't feel like another sightseeing stop.
It's an interactive, technology-driven mini-golf experience with food and drinks.
I would reserve ahead, particularly on weekends and during a holiday period. Walk-ins are possible but aren't guaranteed.
A Thanksgiving Reset in Franklin: Southall
After a few busy days in Nashville, I think the best way to spend Thanksgiving is to slow things down a little. Franklin is just a short drive from Nashville, but it feels like a completely different pace — and Southall Farm & Inn is one of my favorite places to do exactly that.
Honestly, this is the secret sauce to making your Thanksgiving in Nashville really special.
There’s something about Southall that makes me exhale the minute I arrive. Maybe it’s the green rolling landscape, the beautiful sunrises and sunsets, or simply the feeling that you don't have anywhere else you need to be.
Imagine waking up on Thanksgiving morning joining other guests for an 830AM Turkey Trot around the property. Then spend the afternoon at the spa, relaxing in one of the beautiful spaces around the property, or simply taking in the scenery. And when it’s time for Thanksgiving dinner, you can sit down to a beautiful meal without worrying about cooking, cleaning or figuring out where everyone is going to eat.
Their Thanksgiving programing also includes a Hilltop Happy Hour on Thanksgiving Eve. And I promise you, the sunsets here are magical.
